Dessert Destination counter screen on a tablet: the menu of softies, sundaes and bing su on the left, and a new order with a red Place order button on the right.
Dessert Destination on a phone: the menu with item counts and a red Review order bar.

The problem

At a busy dessert counter, the till, the kitchen and the waiting customers all need to agree on which order is which. The owner also wants to know the day’s sales without counting slips at closing.

Our approach

Four simple screens that share one live record. The counter places the order and calls out a short token number, the kitchen sees it as a ticket, a TV tells customers when to collect, and the owner reads the ledger from their phone. It is a website, so any phone, tablet, laptop or TV with a browser can run it.

What we delivered

  • Counter

Tap items, add a label or a note for the kitchen, and call out the token. Prices come from the menu, so nobody can type a wrong price.

  • Kitchen

Tickets in large type, oldest first. Each one shows how long it has waited and changes colour at five and ten minutes.

  • Board

A TV facing customers shows Preparing and Ready for pickup, and plays a chime when an order is ready. No names or prices on screen.

  • Ledger

Orders, revenue and who entered each order, for today or any earlier day.

  • Hard to get wrong

Every step can be undone, cancelling takes two taps, and changing the staff PIN locks out a lost phone.

The result

The shop runs it on the devices it already had, with every screen updating within a second. It shipped with an eight-page guide for staff, written in plain language.
